I had a 9 hour flight to Chicago yesterday and decided that I'd try and read the majority of 'Lunar Park', a book I just purchased by Bret Easton Ellis, during the plane journey.
I had never read any of his work, though I have always heard a lot of talk about him, and I regret not doing so earlier, because 'Lunar Park' is so, so good!
The story takes place over 12 days in which the narrator, a highly successful writter who has been forced to give up the party life since his girlfriend gave birth, begins to be haunted by reminders of the past. He begins to see an a boy almost identical to himself driving the same car that he drove when he was a teenager everywhere he goes, complete with the same licence plate. His furniture begins rearranging itself to match the room he grew up in. He begins getting emails from the bank where his father's ashes are being kept in a safety deposit box at 2 in the morning, every email attatched with a video showing his father's death. On top of all this, his son is somehow connected to all the missing children that have been disappearing in the town.
I've not finished the book yet, however I'm only a few chapters from the end. But the book had me completely transfixed for nine hours straight! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for something to read.
