I just checked out this new movie at my umgd internship. It’s called “The Motel” and it was really very good. It’s focused on this 13 year old Asian boy who’s going through all the normal awkward puberty stuff but also has to deal with the weird and dodgy people he meets at this seedy motel his family lives in and runs. The DVD is coming out at the end of this month (the 30th I believe) but check out themotel-film.com for more info and a better description of the film.

I saw it tonight and maybe I missed something, but I thought it was kind of lame. I felt sorry for the kid because he was stuck there and required to do all the dirty work to keep that hotel running (staying up all night, what about school??) There were just too many things that didn't work, like the driving scenes, and too many subplots that didn't go anywhere, like with the skateboarders and when the boy and older man went to the older man's house. It just never really takes off or has any substance in my opinion. -- www.outlawthemovie.com
